Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

It is a courageous step to reach out to another and invite them into your story, to risk the vulnerability of being fully seen and walking with you towards healing and wholeness. It is my goal to create an environment of safety, beauty, and connection both in the therapeutic space and in the therapeutic relationship. Healing often requires seeing painful parts of ourselves, of others and of events in our lives. My hope is that in creating the environment above, Jesus can use the therapeutic relationship and counseling approaches to provide you with strength, motivation, courage and perseverance to pursue the freedom that healing and wholeness offer. From this place, we can be more connected to God, ourselves and others.
I earned a Masters in Christian Counseling from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in May 2011, and I am licensed in North Carolina as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (#S9048) and a Marriage and Family Therapist (#1765). I am a Christian Counselor with training in the integration of faith and theoretical approaches for those who want this as part of their therapy. My therapeutic experience includes work with individuals, couples, and families. Specialty areas include marriage therapy, premarital couples (using Prepare/Enrich), adult female survivors of childhood sexual abuse, relationship dynamics and struggles/hurt within the Christian faith. My style is person-centered and relational. I utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy, EMDR, inner child/parts work, and Psychodynamic therapy.
I bring my dog, Callie, with me to the therapy room each day. She is a 9-year old, 45 pound Goldendoodle who can usually spot when anxiety or grief enters the room before I do. Many clients say that she is the therapy they need each time they come in. If you are not a dog person, Callie can go in her crate for your session.
When I am not counseling, I enjoy long walks with Callie, connecting with friends, being outside, cooking for others, watching Tarheel basketball and playing games.

Approach
"My approach within the therapy room is almost always grounded from an attachment perspective. Keeping in mind that the therapeutic relationship needs to model the felt sense of secure attachment so that the client has the safety and security to do the hard work of healing. In couples therapy, my approach is through the Emotionally Focused Therapy lens, which includes attachment and experiential theories. Whether we are actually working on attachment or considering other aspects of the marital relationship, the couple will need to know that same felt sense of secure attachment between them.
I also utilize Bilateral Stimulation (a form of Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) to help clients resolve trauma, calm anxiety or change negative narratives in their stories. This is an evidence-based therapeutic approach specific to trauma healing that helps the brain reprocess the traumatic event(s) or memories so that they are stored like other memories. Additionally, I utilize inner child/parts work to facilitate integration of self. "
